Type Locality and Naming
Synonym: Melez Chograne Fm and basal Jefarah Fm. in Ghadames Basin; Unit III-3 in Illizi Basin (Benvegnù, 2020).
References: Hallett, 2002; Jabir et al., 2020; Benvegnù, 2020
Lithology and Thickness
It is made up of marine shales with interbedded sandstone, representing a flooding event (Jabir et al., 2020). There is evidence of subaqueous slumps, liquefaction and turbidity flows and brachiopods are present, thus indicating a cold water environment; that’s the reason why the Edjeleh Fm. represents a first major deglaciation event (Hallett, 2002).
Lithology Pattern:
Sandy claystone
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
It unconformably overlies the Hamra Fm.
Upper contact
It is conformably overlain by the Gara Louki Fm.
Regional extent
